This page covers the questions people ask most, and it is where both app stores send you to close your account. If what you need is not here, write to us and a person will answer.
Contact us
Email hello@abodiea.com. We answer within two working days, and usually the same day. Tell us the phone number on your Abodiea account so we can find you. Never send us your password or your card details. We will never ask for either.
Closing your account
You can close your Abodiea account from inside either app, and you can do it yourself without asking us. Closing an account is permanent. You cannot sign in afterwards and the account cannot be reopened; if you come back to Abodiea later you start a new one.
How to close it
In the Abodiea app or the Abodiea Landlord app:
- Open Settings.
- Tap About.
- Tap Close my account.
- Read what the screen tells you. If anything is outstanding it is listed there before you confirm, not after.
- Confirm.
If you cannot get into the app, because of a lost phone or a number you no longer use, email hello@abodiea.com from the address on your account, or write to us with the phone number you signed up with. We will verify that the account is yours before we close it, and we will tell you when it is done.
What is deleted
When your account closes, we remove:
- Your name.
- Your phone number.
- Your email address.
- Your password.
- Your profile photograph.
- Every signed-in session, on every device. You are signed out everywhere immediately.
Nothing on the account names you afterwards, and nobody can sign in to it.
What is kept, and why
Records of money keep their shape. A rent payment happened, a settlement happened, and a landlord's year has to stay accountable and add up. Those records survive with everything that identified you stripped out of them. The history keeps its shape and stops naming anybody.
We keep them because Nigerian financial record-keeping requires it and because the person on the other side of the tenancy is entitled to their own accounts. They are not used to contact you, they are not sold, and they cannot be linked back to you by us or by anyone else once your account is closed.
If something is outstanding
Some things have to be settled before an account can close, because closing it would strand somebody's money or somebody's home:
- A live tenancy. End it first.
- Rent Abodiea is holding for you. It is yours and it does not disappear. Ask for it back, or let it pay through.
- Properties still listed, if you are a landlord. Remove them first.
Your request is recorded either way. You are told exactly what is outstanding, and the account closes as soon as it clears. You do not have to ask again.
Payments and receipts
Every rent payment has a receipt, kept in the app under your tenancy's payment history. Card payments are processed by Paystack, a licensed Nigerian payment processor; Abodiea never sees or stores your full card number.
If a payment left your bank and does not appear in the app, wait for the bank's own confirmation and then email us the date, the amount and the phone number on your account. We can trace it.
Trouble signing in
You sign in with the phone number you registered and your password. If you have forgotten it, use Forgot password on the sign-in screen; a code is sent to that number.
If the code does not arrive, check that the number is reachable and that it is the one you registered. Nigerian networks put some numbers on a Do Not Disturb list which can block messages; sending ALLOW to 2442 lifts it on most networks. If it still does not arrive, write to us.
Identity verification
Tenants confirm who they are with a National Identification Number and a photograph of their face. The check is run by Smile ID. Your photograph goes from the app straight to Smile ID and is never stored by Abodiea, and your NIN is stored only as an unreadable hash plus the last four digits, so that we can tell one account from another without holding the number itself.
If a check fails, the app tells you why and you can try again. Blurred photographs and a number that does not match the name are the two usual causes.
Reporting a problem
Tell us what you were doing, what you expected and what happened instead, at hello@abodiea.com. A screenshot helps. If it concerns money, include the amount and the date and we will treat it as urgent.
